MATT'S STORY
"Since taking up running at the age of 11, I've always been a competitive athlete & enthusiastic distance runner.
Growing up I loved playing sports and it was always my ambition to coach & work outdoors, but after graduating with a Masters from University I found myself working indoors in retail & office roles that just weren't right for me.

At 26, I decided to follow my calling in life & do the 2 things I was most passionate about - Running & Coaching.
I took the risk to leave a comfortable office job to set up my own full-time Running Coaching company, naming it Running Goals.
​
I’m delighted to say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love being able to be active and get to work outside in the fresh air every day. I feel so much happier, healthier and more fulfilled helping others to get into running or helping them to maximise their running potential.
​
Over the past 7 years I have successfully worked with over 200 runners of all abilities, ages and sizes, building up an enthusiastic & dedicated client base of runners who are now equally as excited about running as myself. I am very proud to have helped so many of them achieve their lifetime goals – whether that be to take up running for the first time, set a Parkrun PB or finally run the sub 3 hour Marathon they only dreamt they were capable of!

Many of our clients have since felt empowered to take up running as a hobby for life, and I'm always delighted to see how much their confidence visibly grows, often after just a few weeks with our training.
As a Coach, I firmly believe in educating our athletes so they understand more about running, how and why they are doing the session they are doing and how it will help their training. I try to ask engaging questions & also try to deliver snippets of information about sports psychology, sports physiology, biomechanics & training tips in small, easy to understand bitesize chunks & find this is a great approach for generating a real interest in the sport.

Helping people become as enthusiastic about running as myself, empowering them to have a hobby for life and seeing their confidence grow over time (as well as helping them to new PB's!) is just the best feeling and is exactly why I set up Running Goals."

15 Years: Wirral AC (2001 - 2008), Liverpool Harriers (2012 - Present)

Represented Merseyside at Junior Level, and was part of very successful St. Anselm's College and Wirral AC Junior Teams
​
Track: 800m to 3k, Road: 5k, Cross-Country: 3k - 12k
(Competed over wide range of events from 4x 100m up to Half Marathon)
​
UK X-Challenge, National & Northern XC Championships & Relays, Merseyside County XC & T&F Champs, Trafford GP.
Also numerous 5k's including Podium & Christleton 5k's
​
My singularly defining moment in Athletics would be winning the prestigious King Henry VIII Relay Championship in 2007 as part of an incredible St. Anselm’s College team. This event has attracted several future stars of distance running including Seb Coe & the Brownlees, so to be part of a team that set the 6th fastest time in history was very special to me

To achieve a lifelong ambition of breaking 9 minutes for 3000m
